The Lions Club has been created at the moment of crisis of 1917 by the American insurance agent Melvin JONES which confirmed that in a life "We won't go so far if we don’t start to do something for someone".

Today the International Lions Club is the biggest and most influential Club of Service in the world; it is a huge chain of solidarity for service to the Humanity, counting about 1.350.000 members from 200 countries. In France there are 1200 clubs that unite 30.000 members.

Moreover the Lions Club is the unique Non-governmental organization which takes a constant place in the U.N.O. with the rightof an advisory voice. The club is also a member of UNICEF.

Our club, Lions Club Marseille Doyen, has been created in 1952. It is the second Club by importance in France. For more than 50 years the Club has initiated creations of majority of similar Clubs in the South of France.

Public actions of Lions Club Marseille Doyen are numerous and various:

• Creation of centre Les Parons,
• The basis and administration La Chrysalide,
• Animation of Etape,
• Financing of Chiens Guides for blind and invalids,
• Grants for scientific researches and donation of a medical material,
• la Fontaine aux Jouets for hospitalized children,
• Marathon " La Nocturne de Marseille" for struggle against blindness,
• Help to ARSEP, AMGORE, Téléthon, A chacun son Everest, Aux Maisons Ronald Mac Donalds,
• and other different actions.
